terror, terrorism and terrrorist.

This article is about the correct use of words in journalism, the author says that its not only to use the correct words, is to use the ones people know, because they can interpretate in another way.

The person that makes the question, wanted to know if it was correct to describe the attack of the United States as "terror attack", because they are not aloud to use "terrorism attack", I think it is only because United States did it, if the ones who attacked would be Iraqis, for example in the twin towers attack, that would be terrorism.

The problem of this words as the reading says, is that they are too loaded with value judgments, so it´s kind of dangerous to write in a certain context. Mr. Steels respond him to use the first rules, whit the most easy meanings, to all people can understand. And says: "Terror" has several definitions, including "intense, overpowering fear...the ability to instill intense fear...violence promoted by a group to achieve or maintain supremacy." Terrorism is defined in my dictionary as "the systematic use of terror, violence, and intimidation to achieve an end." So referring to things that happen the last week, he consider correct to use that kind of words.

I was thinking about the Ecuador´s new law of communication, I´m studding journalism and I am very worried about the changes that are going to be part of my work. I don´t want to work by pressure, if I say something the government don´t accept I will have a punishment. why?

When something is forbidden it’s because there will be a punishment, the law wants to create an institution that is going to “regulate and punish” the medias. Do we really want to work with frighten?, where is my freedom to say and investigate things? Is it democracy? If most of the communication channels are from the government, how can we investigate with freedom, whit no punishment?

There must be changes, but these have to improve the journalism, the investigation, not to go back in the time of no freedom of speech, we have to look the reality whith critic eyes, not to be sleeping and accept all that is imposed to us.

Everybody have listened at least once about cancer, this disease has affected people all around the world. But the most painful and difficult part, is when it happens to you or to someone you love, ¿how we should act? ¿how support people in this case? ¿how to overcome to this very difficult situation?

First of all it’s important to know that it can happen to everyone, and that anybody is safe of it. This disease is a very difficult process; it needs time and a lot of comprehension in the family. In the moment we discover it, the first thing most people think it´s: why it has happened to me?, it should be wrong, but al last, we learn to live with it, to overcome it.

Quimiotheraphy it’s very difficult proces because of the consequences, that are the hardest part. The family must support that person whit a lot of love and patience, when people suffers of cancer their mood turns really bad, one time they are happy, but other they start to become really depress, its not easy dealing with dead, so we have to wait in peace, thats the meaning of patience.

Not matter the result, the most important thing is that the family shoul stay together and fight. And remember that dead its the only thing in our lifes we will have for sure.

About the movie.

When I saw the movie “ben x”, in www.youtube.com, It´s a story of a young boy that can not comunicate with other people since he was little. He has autism, a genetic desorder of the brain that afects the hability of comunication, talk and act. It develops between 2 and 4 years. Since he was little, Ben have had a lot of problems with his school friends, because he was “wear” and diferent.The problem with autism is that other people don´t accept the situation and treat him in a very cruel way, so he decided to lie and make the others think he was dead, and that he had sucide him selve.

When people thought he was dead and when they were in the church, a video was published and show how his school clasmates treat them so bad. It makes me think about how can we kill somebody´s soul only by talking. Ben was a boy that only needs a bit of comprehencion and love. He find love in a computer game, whit a real girl. But because of his problem he cant get in touch with her.

At the end of the movie, he stay with the girl, but only in his mind. I think it happens much of the time in our relationships, because we dream in a perfect boy not a real one.

See the change

When we talk or even think about religión, the first thing that come to our head in most of the time, is a boring guy praying. In Ecuador, stadistics revel that most of the people´s religion is catholic. But a big part of them are against the church, they don´t believe in it because of what the story have taught us about it. Saying that in the feudalism time the religion was used to controled people and get a lot of money to themselves. And even it was true, we have to remember that the church is conformed by human people that had their mistakes.

All those things people is not going to forget easily, But the catholic religion it´s not only mistakes, people don´t know the new aspects and works of the church. For example, here in Quito, some chuches are working together to help poor people giving meal to them, taking care of children, we don´t know those wonderfull programs that help young poor people that sufers of cancer, or the other that helps single mothers to don´t abort, and provided them with food, a place to live an a job. all of this is to teach all the people how to get over from troubles.

The religion doesn´t want to tell us what to do, only teach us things about how to live our lifes helping the others, don´t be selfish, love us and the others and help other people, making us to their problems.
This for me it has beena way of living with God and be happy.

Me in few words

My name is Fernanda Jara Cordero, I am 19 years old, 1.54 high, but I´m sure I have to keep growing in a lot of aspects: personal, in my career and spiritual.
I am studing social comunication, to get a degree on journalis and then in organizacional comunication. I spent two months of my vacation working at a newspaper. I learned a lot, it was a great experience because it was the first time I have to do real invetigations, that not only were going to be read in my university, it was the first time I have the responsability of writing real, interesting news. I learnd by force to investigate and to deal with all kind of people, because in this carreer all you write is critisied because of good or bad, or because you said something that a group of persons don´t want to hear. One time, I have to do a research of one important public institution, and I discovered that there was a lot of coruption in there, people have very high salaries because of doing nothing they spend money of the institution for themselves, so I started investigatng, it was really exciting, I have to manage to get all the documents to proove that, and I have to talk with the authorities to know more about it. Then, like a week later my article was published, one hour later, people of that institution called me and said bad things, they also called my boss asking them to fired me, luckily, I get a lot of documents to proove the thrut by my work, so I didn´t have problems. All of this kind of experiences helped me to decided what I want in my profesional life.
Another important aspect, is that I enjoy working whit people, I worked also in two volunteer programs, the one is giving meal and cooking for poor people, most of them childs. The other is my favorite one, is working with wemen that want to abort or have aborted before, to go over it, we helped them sicologicaly, with doctors, food, and a place to life, it is really wonderfull to help other people, the best part is when a baby born, its amazing, there are no words to describe it. So, in my profesional life I want to mix all that stuff, I also like political aspects, thats why I choose journalis as a career and a way of living, because in the news paper I can get people know that kind of things.
